Once you log in, you will see a list of available IBExpert versions. Choose the one that suits your needs and click on the download link. You will get a zip file that contains the IBExpert Portable executable and other files.
Extract the zip file to a folder of your choice. You can use any folder on your local drive, a USB stick, or a cloud drive. The folder name should not contain any spaces or special characters. For example, you can use C:\\IBExpertPortable or D:\\IBExpertPortable.
Now you have IBExpert Portable ready to use. You can run it by double-clicking on the IBExpertPortable.exe file in the folder. You will see the IBExpert splash screen and then the main window of the IDE.How to configure IBExpert Portable to connect to your Firebird databases
IBExpert Portable can connect to your Firebird databases using either the full connection string or an alias. The full connection string consists of the server name (or localhost) followed by the drive and path to the database file, with the database file name concatenating on the end. For example, localhost:C:\\Data\\MyDB.fdb.
An alias is a pseudonym for the database connection string and database file name. It is defined in the aliases.conf file on the server machine. Using an alias, users are not able to see where the database really is and, should it be relocated, the new connection string only needs to altered once in the aliases.conf. For example, you can define an alias db1 for the database C:\\Data\\MyDB.fdb as follows:
db1=C:\\Data\\MyDB.fdb
Then you can connect to the database using localhost:db1 as the connection string.
To connect to your Firebird databases using IBExpert Portable, you need to register them in the IBExpert IDE. You can do this by clicking on the Database menu and choosing Register Database. You will see a window where you can enter the connection string or alias, the user name and password, and other options. You can also specify the Firebird client library (fbclient.dll) that you want to use for the connection. You can use the one that comes with IBExpert Portable or another one that you have on your machine or network.
After registering your databases, you can see them in the Database Explorer on the left side of the IBExpert main window. You can connect to a registered database simply by double-clicking on its name. You can also use the Database menu or toolbar icons to connect or disconnect from a database. 061ffe29dd
