When we pray, we are shown in media, or maybe even by our church, that this is a time to talk to God, ask for forgiveness, ask Him for things we need, tell Him how grateful we are for Him, and be done. Even if you take an hour doing this, there is an important component that is missing—the part where He talks to you. See, if we spend the entire time talking to God during a prayer, umm,
when does he have the time to answer what you prayed for?
Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Whew how exciting is that!? But, how are we going to hear that,
if we don’t pause, and let God be GOD?
Y’qll ever got on the phone with someone who is just talking away about what they are going to do in a situation, not letting you get a word in, when in reality you have an entire solution for them? Spending quiet time with God is a two-way moment. I’m so glad that He doesn’t hang up the phone on me.
Pause while praying allowed me to not only remain quiet while He talked, but to remain still as He moved. Exodus 14:14 says, “the Lord will fight for you; you only need to be still.” Ooh, that verse still gives me chills. Here we are going here, there, everywhere. Trying to do these tasks, trying to be on this board, trying to volunteer the most, trying to take every gig to make your bills—and He said:
"if you just pause, and be still, I got it."
I get it—we live in a society where you are pressured to do the most to be the most. Independency is such a value, so we feel as if we need to handle everything ourselves. But God knew that our bodies, spirits, and minds were NOT equipped to take on all the things we try to take on. Don’t forget, He made us! He wants us to live life abundantly and free (John 10:10b), and He wants to lift that burden. So, pause! When you pray, pause. Don’t try to pray while doing some other things, or in a rush. Stop. Let Him have this space and time. Pause and hear His voice, then pause so he can MOVE.
Now it shifts from you taking on everything, to HIM moving everything within you.
Drops of Honey:
-Pause to allow your head, heart, and spirit to be fully focused on God during prayer.
-Pause to give space for God to talk to you during prayer.
-Pause and be still so that God can fight for you and move within your life.
Schedule 20-30 minutes in your day to just pause with God. Or, 5-10 mins at the top of each hour. A moment that is un-rushed, still, and ears open. We can do this. Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for being a Lord that will be present with us at any time. Lord, in our busy days and in a society that teaches us to do more to be more, please remind us to pause and be still. Remind us that time with you will slow all things down and bring all things to completion. Lord, when we pray, we will listen so that we can learn more on how to walk through each day in peace. Please calm our hearts, minds, and spirit to be at ease, so that we continue to feel more led in pausing and being intimate with you. Thank you for your grace as we grow closer to you, and thank you for lifting our burdens when we pause and come to you. I ask all of these things in Your Son Jesus Name, Amen.
